RSCDS MONTREAL BRANCH Mission & MEMBERSHIP
The RSCDS Montreal Branch is a Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS). The RSCDS is a world-wide organization that seeks to preserve and promote Scottish Country Dancing through teaching, historical research, publication of dances and music, and producing recorded music. Branches such as the Montreal Branch operate fairly independently within the RSCDS framework. We have RSCDS accredited teachers, and can take advantage of publications and other services offered by RSCDS Headquarters. We take our mission from the RSCDS, and seek to provide both instruction in Scottish Country Dance and especially social dancing opportunities within our Branch area. We also give demonstrations and lead participation dancing at various public events to introduce our pastime and cultural heritage and to encourage new membership. We also perform at various hospitals and homes. For more information on the RSCDS, see the RSCDS general information web site. You can also view the Montreal Branch constitution.
Dancers are encouraged to join the RSCDS through the Montreal Branch to support its activities.
Advantages of membership include a list of contacts for dancing anywhere in the world, regular Branch and Society newsletters, and discounts at certain Branch activities. Membership for the 2007/2008 dance season is $33 for individuals, $28 for each additional family member. (Note class fees are set by individual groups and are not included in the Branch membership fee.)
