SCD	Aug. 3, 2008. Montreal Highland Games (Sun.) Pierrefonds Sport Park (near Pierrefonds Blvd. & St. Jean Blvd., right behind the Pierrefonds Comprehensive High School) See map. We're Back !! The Montreal Branch RSCDS returns to the Montreal Highland Games / Scottish Festival that is, on Sunday 3 Aug 2008, at the Georges Springate Sports Complex, at the corner of Pierrefond and St. John's Blvds. in Pierrefonds. Come and spend a special day at the Games and do stop by to visit us in the area next to the Clans. This year we are giving away a Voucher form for new dancers, which will be good for three nights of dancing at any of our dance classes in the branch. As well there will be a separate info-sign up sheet for new dancers and one lucky person's name will be drawn who will be eligible for a one-year membership in the Branch. We look forward to seeing you all ! It'll be a great Day! Slainte mhath !! Come and enjoy all the usual activities - caber tossing, dance competitions, pipe bands, Scottish food and specialty booths. (Sat. 7:00pm ) Stewart Museum, The Old Fort, Île-Ste-Hélène, Montreal Featuring historical drill re-enactments by La Compagnie franche de la Marine, the pipes and drums of the 78th Fraser Highlanders, Highland Dancing and more. A sound and light show in pure military tradition. (Note: In case of inclement weather, this event will be postponed to the following day.) This display features trees donated and decorated by various cultural groups. Ena Doyle is looking for both decorating ideas and help on the day. The tree will be on display until January 6th. An Intimate Evening of Celtic Music and Gaelic Song Maeve Mackinnon – In Concert (Sat. 7:30pm ) Théâtre Lac-Brome (Knowlton, Québec) - 1 hr 15 min from downtown Montreal Maeve Mackinnon who sings equally well in Scots Gaelic as in English was one of four nominees for “Gaelic Singer of the Year” at the 2008 Scottish Traditional Music Awards and has won many accolades in Scotland over the past five years. Her debut album was said to be one of the most absorbing albums to be released in Scotland in a long time (according to Scotland on Sunday). Maeve will be accompanied by Ewan MacPherson, a guitarist and singer with his own following in Scotland and abroad. Opening Act: Dave Gossage, master flute and tin whistle player (and multi-instrumentalist), and Michael Ayles, singer/guitarist. These talented Montreal musicians are in high demand and are arguably some of Montreal’s best Celtic musicians. If you are from out of town, why not plan to have dinner before the concert in one of the restaurants within walking distance of the Theatre (The Café-Inn and the Relais, described at www.montrealcelticfestival.com). Or stay the night at the Auberge Knowlton so as not to have to rush home after the concert. It is truly a special village to stroll through in the evening when all is so quiet – a perfect way to end the evening before retiring for the night! The concert will start at 7:30 pm (doors open at 6:30) and will end no later than 10 pm.
